Isn’t it a kick in the head when one man’s intellectual hedonism is another man’s ability to profit from labor with no remuneration whatsoever? Sure it’s consensual, sure it’s narcissistic; yes, it is subject to rules and motivations outside the labor contract. But. When labor is the source of (tremendous) profit—even if that labor is intellectual property forfeited to the capitalist (perhaps especially so)— it’s still ultimate surplus value.
And what if that fully consensual surplus labor enables exploitation, dubious labor practices, sexism , and the general softening of your mind?
